Building a robust, dynamic grain company that can offer attractive and innovative solutions to growers in Australia has been the driving force behind Plum Grove since the company was started in 2003.
Plum Grove has built a reputation on developing innovative pool products to the market. As wheat has deregulated Plum Grove has sought to provide further innovation to the traditional wheat supply chain by acting as a service link between critical long term international consumers and growers with cash accumulation models that are more truly aligned with market transparency. Plum Grove is now a model for growers to access markets in a different way to traditional trading house models.
Plum Grove established strategic partnerships with Seaboard Corporation and Salim Group in 2010. Both Seaboard Corporation and Salim Group offer significant consumptive demand opportunities for Australian grain: Seaboard Corporation has 14 flour mills on the East Coast of Africa and Salim Group have substantial milling operations in South East Asia, principally in Indonesia under the Indofoods banner.
The Salim Group, through its majority ownership of Indofood, is historically the largest buyer of Australian wheat taking an average of approximately 2 million tonnes per year, mostly from Western Australia.
Indofoods is one of the world's largest instant noodle manufacturers by volume, one of the largest plantation companies by area and the largest flour miller in Indonesia. Indofood's flourmill in Jakarta is the largest in the world in terms of production capacity in one location. It also has an extensive distribution network in Indonesia.
Seaboard Corporation is a listed company traded on the NYSE Amex Equities under the symbol SEB. It has over 90 years of history and multiple business units spanning food, marine, commodity trading & milling divisions as well as other agri-business interests such as sugar production & processing.
Seaboard has extensive flour milling and feed manufacturing facilities all over the world and sources, transports and markets over 5 million tonnes of grain annually. Seaboard operates flour mills on the East Coast of Africa which have traditionally been undersupplied by Australian origin wheat.
