There is no one strategy or product that can get you the best price every year but what you use to sell your wheat will depend on your cash flow requirements, your view of the market and your appetite for risk.
As a general rule, there are three possible stages to marketing your grain: pre-harvest contracting, harvest spot delivery & contracting, and post harvest selling. Each type has benefits and risks but at the end of the day, the question for you, as a seller of grain is: do I want to market the grain myself, or do I want someone else to take care of this aspect for me?
Deciding on a strategy will assist on keeping you marketing plan on track, regardless of outside influences.

So why use pools?

The question of whether or not to use pools is not a product question it's a marketing question that goes to the core of deciding how you best want to use your time on the farm.
How much should I put into a pool?
There are no hard and fast rules for how much of your production should be committed by strategy or product.
At harvest time, many growers still put 100% of their production into pools, however, at Plum Grove, we believe that growers should not give their entire production to any one pool provider.
